RIIMPO337 - Conduct articulated haul truck operations overview

The RIIMPO337 Conduct articulated haul truck operations course equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to operate articulated haul trucks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards across civil construction, quarrying, and mining environments. The program introduces learners to the operational principles, compliance requirements, and workplace procedures that underpin safe and productive articulated haulage activities. It is designed to build confidence and capability in planning, preparing, and completing haulage tasks while meeting site‑specific, environmental, and legislative obligations.

What you will learn:

  • Operational Cycle: Participants engage with the full operational cycle of articulated haul truck use—from conducting pre‑start inspections and equipment checks through to loading, hauling, dumping, shutdown, and post‑operational housekeeping.
  • Risk Management: The course emphasises hazard identification, risk management, environmental awareness, and effective communication, ensuring learners can operate within dynamic and high‑risk work environments typical of civil infrastructure projects, extractive industries, and open‑cut mining operations.
  • Practical Competence: Participants develop practical competence in manoeuvring articulated haul trucks within equipment capabilities, including managing articulation points, negotiating variable terrain, and responding to changing ground and weather conditions.
  • System Knowledge: The program integrates essential knowledge of site traffic rules, equipment limitations, geological and survey information, and operational safety systems, enabling participants to make informed decisions that support safe, coordinated, and efficient production outcomes.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaboration with loading equipment operators, supervisors, and other mobile plant personnel is reinforced throughout training to promote cohesive and controlled site operations.
  • Technical Compliance: Access, interpret, and apply technical documentation and site policies to ensure all activities comply with legislative and workplace requirements.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Monitor equipment performance using onboard indicators and alarms, and identify and report common mechanical faults or defects.

On successful completion, participants will be able to conduct articulated haul truck operations that meet industry expectations for safety, efficiency, and compliance. Graduates will demonstrate the ability to complete haulage tasks consistently, manage operational risks, maintain accurate documentation, and perform routine operator maintenance. This unit supports individuals seeking employment or upskilling in mobile plant operator roles and contributes to broader competency requirements within the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.

  • Age – Participants must be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) – All participants must provide a valid USI prior to course commencement, in accordance with national training requirements.
