RIIMPO206D - Conduct bulk water truck operations overview

The RIIMPO206D – Conduct bulk water truck operations course equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to operate water trucks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards across coal mining, metalliferous mining, and extractive industry environments. The program introduces learners to the operational principles, compliance requirements, and workplace procedures that underpin safe and effective water distribution activities. It is designed to build confidence and capability in planning, preparing, and completing water‑truck tasks while meeting site‑specific, environmental, and legislative obligations.

What you will learn:

  • Pre-start Checks: Conduct thorough inspections and equipment tests to ensure the water truck is safe and functional before beginning operations.
  • Safe Operation: Drive and manoeuvre bulk water trucks effectively, adapting techniques to suit various ground conditions and site traffic rules.
  • Water Distribution: Load, haul, and distribute water specifically for dust suppression, road maintenance, and general operational support.
  • Risk Management: Identify site hazards and apply risk control measures to maintain safety in high-risk mining or quarrying environments.
  • Environmental Awareness: Implement environmental controls and practices to minimise the impact of water distribution and site activities.
  • Effective Communication: Coordinate with supervisors and other plant operators using standard site communication protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Monitoring Systems: Interpret equipment alarms and performance indicators to respond correctly to technical issues or system failures.
  • Post-operational Care: Complete formal shutdown procedures and perform essential housekeeping and maintenance reporting at the end of a shift.

On successful completion, participants will be able to conduct bulk water truck operations that meet industry expectations for safety, efficiency, and compliance. Successful participants will demonstrate the ability to complete water distribution tasks consistently, manage operational risks, maintain accurate documentation, and perform routine operator maintenance. This unit supports individuals seeking employment or upskilling in mobile plant operator roles and contributes to broader competency requirements within the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.
